Worth understanding what red actually does. Red is the first wavelength the water absorbs and is essentially gone by 15–20 feet, so a red skirt down deep is not red any more — it reads as a dark grey or black silhouette. That is not a flaw. It is exactly why black/red is a proven wahoo combination.

When to run multi red

• Water: Any — it earns its place deep and in low light
• Light: Overcast, early and late
• Species: Wahoo; also a dark option for marlin

At 12–16 knots a fish gets a fraction of a second to decide, so run it where flash and contrast matter more than detail.

Why the 9" length

The small profile. Mahi mahi, school tuna, and short-corner positions where a bigger bait gets looked at and refused. It is also the standard length for dressing daisy chains, dredge droppers and small chuggers.

The most common colour mistake is not picking the wrong one — it is picking one and running five of it. A spread is a test: every position is a question you are asking the ocean.
